The Langham Hotel
Life-safety standby generation
Consultants for London’s Langham Hotel appointed YorPower to design and deliver a replacement backup system for key services and life-safety loads.
Turnkey scope
- Decommission and remove the original roof-level equipment.
- Design structural steelwork and complete mechanical and electrical works.
- Supply a 450kVA Volvo-powered generator in a bespoke acoustic enclosure.
- Install digital controls for grid synchronisation and parallel operation.
- Test, commission and provide warranty, servicing and maintenance support.
Restricted-access installation
Sunday road closures allowed crane access. Engineers dismantled the original engine, alternator and ancillary equipment inside the difficult-to-access plant room. Components travelled up a lift shaft to the roof for removal. The new set followed the reverse route in sections, then was reassembled and connected inside the plant room.
Noise and vibration
Special vibration-damping mountings supported the structural steelwork. Three silencing systems were incorporated to limit disturbance when the generator starts automatically, protecting the hotel environment while providing standby power.
