Port Sudan

Port and operating conditions

Port Sudan is Sudan’s main Red Sea port, opposite Jeddah, with a refinery, airport and docks handling much of the country’s overseas trade. Rail and road links connect it to Khartoum; an approximately 850km oil pipeline was completed in 1977.

Customs Authority requirement

The arid coastal climate was a key consideration when the Customs Authority sought backup generation for critical systems. The city’s freshwater supply relies on Wadi Arba’at and desalination. Delivery speed, local support and experience of the region influenced selection.

Four-generator package

  • Four Perkins-powered generator sets.
  • Applications spanning 80–200kVA.
  • Acoustic enclosures.
  • Leroy-Somer alternators.
  • DSE7420 controllers.

Application

The equipment was supplied for the authority’s operations at the busy port. The combination of established components, enclosures and regional service support addressed the need for dependable backup in a hot, dry environment.
