Coastal corrosion problem
An airfield in Wales needed a lasting replacement for a generator canopy exposed to salt-laden sea air. Severe corrosion had already led to two canopy replacements by earlier suppliers.
Material selection
The replacement needed to address health-and-safety and fire-rating requirements. Stainless steel and glass-reinforced plastic were considered as alternatives to the existing mild-steel enclosure. GRP was selected as the more economical option for the proposed solution.
Survey and manufacture
YorPower visited the airfield and measured the existing installation carefully. The survey covered door access and the positions of the exhaust outlet, radiator outlet and air inlet so the new enclosure would fit the equipment.
Site replacement
A specialist supplier manufactured the prefabricated GRP kiosk and sent it to site. The corroded steel canopy was removed and replaced by the new kiosk, addressing the repeated deterioration associated with the coastal location.
